Will I ever find an exercise that I like?

Will I ever find an exercise that I like?

I am not a fan of exercise. l have never been a fan, I think it stems from my childhood (blame it on the childhood Danie) when my mother would make me go outside and stay outside. I looked at it as a form of punishment. We lived a skip and a jump away from the firey hot equator in Miami. It was miserably hot… ALL THE TIME. So I hate the heat. When you exercise what do you get? HOT! I hate it. So what can I do? Exercise in A/C I guess, lol. Look, regardless of what I like, I do have to maintain some form of exercise or practice of some sort that will give me some physical or mental exercise.

I am down to try lots of things and have (see evidence above of a few below)

YOGA

My attempt at Yoga in the park

KICKBOXING

Kickboxing kicked my butt

but it doesn’t help that exercise doesn’t seem to have the type of reaction in me that some people say they have. They say how much energy they have after a workout, how great they feel or how they tried a particular exercise and it just really connected with their lives. I am waiting for a connection with something other than my bed and pillow. Exercise makes me feel crazy sleepy and hungry or with a horrible leg cramp later that day.

HIKING

Excitement after my first hike

Excitement after my first hike. I got the worst leg cramp of my life about 1 hour later.

I always eat a decent protein or complex carb before working out, so that can’t be the problem. I drink water and previously I tried Gatorade during workouts. Since nothing really connects, I get through my workout it the best way I know how, good music and well just good music. My phone is full of workout playlists (DJ Daniedoo’s workout Jams 2005 anyone?,Β LOL).

All my workout bemoaning out, I have decided that I will pick up my workout and physical wellness search again. I will share these adventures on Wednesday because I am mad corny and Wellness or Workout Wednesday sounds awesome!

If you know of something I should try, I will look for it here in Atlanta. If I am going to a city with something cool I will be sure to give it a try there. New York and Miami have aqua cycling…Now that sounds cool! (I’m not joking…cycling is probably the workout I hate the least, lol)

Where does outdoor cycling lead? Inside.

Alright. I have a goal. I am going to try exercise and find something I connect to and try that for 3 months. That is long enough to see if I have any connection to it, and if it can be a part of my wellness routine. I look forward to sharing my adventures with you. Don’t forget to share your tips or secrets in the comments.

I am not a fan of workout too but i try to do some pilates and walking a few days every week. By the way, have you ever tried dance class? It might be fun!

I do like bellydance class. That was really fun. I bought a Groupon to do that soon. I will go back to that one.

I have tried tens of different exercises and I guess nobody likes every one of them. For me gym is my favorite (it’s cool to feel strong!), I also like dancing because it’s fun and walking because it’s easy haha! Probably if you don’t like getting hot some kind of water sport could be your thing? In water you won’t feel hot because the water washes away the extra heat. πŸ™‚

Good thoughts, I did try water aerobics. The only thing was when I got out of the water I felt like I was carrying a 50 pound bag on my body. And I am a little bit of a germaphobe so I hate showering at my gym. I gotta figure this thing out. smh

Oh wow, so probably no water sports then. Have you tried any dance related classes? Those come with varying intensity and I usually found them very fun. My favorite is Zumba – you might get hot in there but it’s still fun.

Aw hope you find something you like or at least tolerate. I am not sure people really love exercise as much as they like to say they do. I would prefer to be on the sofa but i know I gotta move.

If cycling is the workout you hate the least, maybe you could try an indoor cycling class like SoulCycle. There are some pretty fire themed classes based on different types of music. (I would totally be down for a Beyonce class!!)

To begin with, I don’t think there is any fun exercise,. However, with time and consistency, the body gets used to it and then it becomes fun. I’ve found running and cycling to be effective for me.

I tried Couch to 5k, it wasn’t horrible. I liked that I was making progress. It made me feel accomplished but then I was wiped out when I got home πŸ™

Finding a workout program you enjoy is important to staying motivated. One piece of advice, sometimes it is better to vary your workouts so you and your body never get bored with your workout. I know if I do the same thing for too long I get bored and that is when I start slacking. Good luck on your exercise journey.

Aerobics worked out so well for me. Could say within 15 minutes of doing. All the best!

I enjoy high intense workouts that look absolutely insane but does take that much time to complete. I cant do something that is too slow. Otherwise, Ill loose interest.

I understand your pain. I also saw exercise as a form of punishment when I was a kid. If you had told me that I would become a fitness trainer one day, I would have never believed it! I took me years and lots of experiments before I started to enjoy exercising. I don’t think I could live without this now. Keep experimenting, don’t be scared to get out of the gym if it’s not the right environment for you, and I’m sure you’ll find your fit eventually. πŸ™‚
